Perhaps it’s the end of semester stress, or just coincidence, but this blog is quickly becoming all about dessert! Although I’ve already written about doughnuts, chocolate chip bars, ice cream (twice) and Sweets and More, I couldn’t miss writing a blog post about La Fiorentina bakery in Northampton.
Northampton is an easy bus ride away from campus and a fun place to spend time on the weekend. My friends and I have loved the Smith Botanic Garden, Spare Time bowling, and Broadside Bookshop. One day after parking in the parking garage we finally noticed La Fiorentina. There's so much to see and do in Northampton that it's sometimes easy to miss great resturants and shops, but as soon as I saw the word “pastry” on the sign and the case of desserts through the wide glass windows, I knew that I had to stop inside.
La Fiorentina has everything you could hope for in an Italian bakery. Cannolis, cookies, tiramisu, cake … There’s also a coffee counter, where baristas make espressos, cappuccinos, and lattes. You can take pastries to go but there’s plenty of seating in the cafe area, too.
La Fiorentina is one of the best bakeries I’ve found since arriving at UMass. Although I’m making plans to study abroad in France next year, my trip to La Fiorentina has me seriously considering a visit to Italy!
