  • Are you interested in the entrepreneurship world but don’t really have any specific business ideas? Then you and I are in the same boat! One of the first steps you could take would be to research a specific industry further. This could go along with your interests, or you could focus on some sectors that professionals say are likely to become even bigger over the next few years. The following three are the ones that I personally found really interesting, and I am going to think about more: Pet care ... is valued at $60 billion in the U.S. This sector's revenue was almost... • School and society as a whole want us to believe that, in order to succeed or get what you want, you must assiduously attend to whatever work is put in front of you and otherwise submit to someone else’s course. That means always doing your homework, putting everything into your job, getting involved in your community however you can . . . the list goes on. This is a mindset that’s pounded into our heads from the moment we start preschool. You want to go play in the sandbox? Well, Jimmy, you have to learn your ABCs first! It makes sense too. It’s a productive mentality... Read More
  • Hello, all.  It's here. The warm weather is here! I've been waiting for warm weather ever since the first snow in October. My ideal climate is 75 degrees and partly cloudy.   It's mid-April. When did that happen? We have three weeks left of the semester. When did that  happen? What's interesting to me is that each individual day seems to take so long to go by and yet the weeks have been truly flying by at rocketship speed.  Even with the weeks flying by at cosmic paces, I was fortunate enough to have a few moments in my schedule this week and last week to pause. Monday... Read More
  • As a busy college student, it can be quite the challenge to get the proper amount of nourishment one needs throughout the day. We’re always racing from class to class, meeting to meeting, and by the time we get home, we realize we’re hangry (very hungry, and angry at how hungry one is). It’s important to stay healthy and take care of your body, especially with all the stress that college life can bring. Here are some tips to get some food in your belly during your busy day!   1. Go to the Dining Halls There are four amazing dining halls here at UMass that offer so many... Read More
  • By “Big Day,” I don’t mean anything as specific as graduation or a wedding or any life changing event like that. What I refer to are those days that you have planned for months and months in advance and have committed to, come Hell or high water. In some people’s case, that’s a trip. In others’, a concert they are attending or performing in. The list goes on. In mine, it was a whole series, from an a cappella competition one week to Anime Boston and surgery the next. The point is that, no matter what it is, if it takes up an entire day or more, then you will need to plan... Read More
  • Ryan’s Question: What are the pros and cons of dorm life? Amberly’s Answer: Hi Ryan! So, I’m going to tackle this question for my blog post, simply because I know that while a lot of people have figured out housing already next year, there are still quite a few people leftover who are debating what to do. I fall into the former category. This year, I’ve been living in Sycamore (an Honors freshmen dorm), but next semester I’ll be moving to Southwest – specifically Crampton, which is home to the Nuance DRC. You might be wondering, what is a DRC? Well, a DRC stands not for... Read More
  • Ryan’s Question: Would you want college to be shorter than four years, or longer than four years? Amberly’s Answer: This question has been on my mind a lot as of late, with registration having just begun. I can’t actually register for anything until April 10, but I’ve been given an ample amount of time to look over the possible courses I could take, at the possible paths my future could take. And as I do, I’m reminded of what Sylvia Plath wrote in her novel, The Bell Jar: “I saw my life branching out before me like the green fig tree in the story. From the tip of every... Read More
  • Hello, all!  Happy April! Spring is my favorite season! This week, I am cheered by the good news that the weather will approach 60 degrees soon. Rumor has it, the temperature will be 78 degrees next Tuesday. Please, oh please, let the rumor be true.  I'm also excited to begin saving money again. This week, I will be contributing $20.00 to my savings account. For those who may not have seen my most recent post, I had to empty my savings account last week, so this brings my total to the same $20.00. I'm still considering alternative options for the trip. I think that it... Read More
  • My very first weekend abroad, I attended a dinner party with my host family to celebrate the New Year. It was everything I had imagined a French dinner party to be — multiple courses, an assortment of cheeses, flutes of champagne, and slices of fresh bread. Then, at the end of the meal, the host called out: "Okay, everyone get under the table!" What? I watched as the children came running into the dining room and hid underneath the table. As it turns out, the days after the New Year are when the French celebrate with galette des rois, a special cake with its own set of... Read More
  • So, you have a business idea and have decided that you need one or more co-founders? Do you know that 62% of startups fail due to the founding team having issues? Now, how do you pick the right person, and what should you and I be looking for? It turns out professionals agree that there are at least four things we should consider when looking for a co-founder: Don’t pick someone who is just like you: Ideally, it would be best if you could find someone whose skills complement yours. Someone who has the exact same strengths and weaknesses as you wouldn’t really be... Read More
