On Feb. 6, Commonwealth Honors College will welcome renowned artist Dr. Synthia Saint James for a Black History Month Celebration. Dr. Saint James will share her art and the influences behind her work as she leads an improvisational collage workshop. Using construction paper in various colors, magazine cut-outs, and other materials, participants will use their imaginations to create individual artistic designs.
Dr. Saint James is a world-renowned multicultural visual artist, author and illustrator of 27 books, and she has garnered numerous awards during her more than forty five-year career. She is the creator of the United States Postal Services's first Kwanzaa stamp, and the national and international cover art of Terry McMillan's book Waiting to Exhale.
