Professor Ventura Perez was featured in the Daily Collegian after delivering his talk "Telling Your Story: My Yellow Brick Road to College" on April 4, 2012.  The assistant professor of anthropology, who received his master's degree and PhD from the University of Massachusetts, talked about his journey to college as a young man of color who was once told by a high school guidance counselor that college was not for him.

Professor Perez was honored with the Distinguished Teaching Award in 2005, a prestigious, campus-wide recognition for which he was nominated by students and alumni, while he was a graduate assistant.

Professor Perez teaches the Honors course Violence in American Culture and has taught honors courses in anthropology.

Earlier this semester Professor Perez shared his knowledge of the uses and limitations of forensic science at a Pizza and Prof event at the Honors College.
