The agenda of the United Nations (UN) Sustainable Development Goals is to end poverty globally. To achieve that, the UN strategizes to address a ‘range of social needs including education, health, social protection, and job opportunities, while tackling climate change and environmental protection’, recognizing that success in any one area goes hand-in-hand with success in all other areas. Given limited resources and the complexity of the problem, mathematical modeling is necessary to identify how to efficiently allocate resources.

Dr. Chaitra Gopalappa, Assistant Professor and Honors Faculty in the Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering, will discuss her team's work in informing the World Health Organizations ‘Best Buys’ for cancers; an action plan to reduce premature mortalities from non-communicable diseases.
