The Commonwealth Honors College is piloting a new course in Spring 2019: Service Learning 293H, "Learning through Community Engagement." It is 4 credits, and satisfies the SB and DU Gen Ed requirements. It will be taught by Nicole Nemec on Wednesdays, from 4:00 – 6:30 pm.
Course Description: In this course, students integrate academic learning with experiential learning. In preparing for community engagement, students explore a thematic course topic (which may be disciplinary or interdisciplinary), examine social structures, and consider what it means to cross boundaries of culture, ethnicity, race, class, or other strands of social identity. Placement in a community-based organization is a course requirement. The organization this class will be working with is the Labor Management Workplace Education Program.
