Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages

For those wishing to teach English Language Learners (ELLs), consider taking Honors 497AH: Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages. A Continuing & Professional Education (CPE) class, Honors 497AH aims to have students explore teaching English Language Learners from the perspectives of teacher, learner, and linguist. The course has two parts: a weekly 3-hour class meeting on concepts of teaching, learning, and language topics, and 2) volunteering to teach within the larger Western-Massachusetts community. In total, there will be 45 hours spent in the classroom and 15 hours teaching.

The class meets on Thursdays from 5:30 to 8:00 pm. Since this is a CPE class, there is a $45/term non-refundable registration fee and another fee for credits – $371 for in-state students and $658 for out-of-state students.
