Commonwealth Honors College is a community of scholars at the University of Massachusetts Amherst.
Our goal for Commonwealth Honors College students is simple: to see students graduate with a valuable degree and a passion for lifelong learning, fully prepared to succeed in a rapidly changing world. We encourage our students to become leaders in thought and action. Students who join Commonwealth Honors College not only engage in a rigorous academic curriculum, but also participate in the college's strong commitment to building a diverse and inclusive community.
CHC offers the advantages of a small college plus access to the opportunities and resources of one of the nation's Top 30 Public Universities (U.S. News & World Report). Honors students can find a major in any of the university's academic departments and programs or even design their own.
We offer small honors classes, close interaction with faculty, and supportive advising; our students have opportunities to conduct research with notable faculty and options for developing leadership. We make special programs, merit scholarships, and research grants available to Honors students. Our Honors Living-Learning Communities offer ambitious students a residential experience that complements their academic objectives.
And students get to live in Amherst— one of the best college towns in the country!
